Introduction
Celestite's chemical composition is strontium sulfate (SrSO₄), occasionally containing small amounts of elements like barium (Ba) that substitute for strontium. Because it often appears in a clear, pale blue, reminiscent of the clear sky, it is associated with the sky and the divine world. It is also known as "heaven stone" or "angel stone."In ancient Egyptian culture, it symbolized protection and passage to the afterlife. The ancient Egyptians believed that stones of a sky-like color could ensure the safe transition of the soul, and thus they were used in burial goods and amulets. In Sumerian and Babylonian cultures, it was regarded as a stone that could connect the human world with heaven and the realm of the gods, and was commonly used in religious sacrifices and rituals.
