Introduction
Peruvian pyrite, with the chemical composition of iron sulfide (FeS₂), is named for its golden-yellow metallic luster, which closely resembles gold, and is also known as "fool's gold."

Historically, ancient Incas and other indigenous peoples polished them to a mirror-like finish, using them as sacred tools for divination, prayer, and sacrifice; medieval European texts, mistaking their shiny, gold-like appearance for actual gold, sparked exploration and mining.
