Discovered during a geological survey in 1948, it was officially recognized and named by the mineralogical community in 1978. During the Cold War era in the Soviet Union, it was regarded as a national treasure-level ore symbolizing the "soul of Siberia," and was often used for official building decorations and commemorative sculptures. Some Russian literature and cultural narratives also view it as a symbolic stone connecting the earth, the frozen plains, and the human will.
