Introduction
Almandine's chemical composition is Fe₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃. It is named for its crystal color, which resembles that of pomegranate seeds, and is also called "chili garnet."

In ancient Egypt, ancient Rome, and medieval Europe, it was used for inlaying on amulets, seals, and weapons. The Bible and medieval medical texts also record that, due to its ability to provide direction in darkness, it was regarded as a protective stone for travelers and warriors.
