The main composition of labradorite consists of albite and anorthite, with the chemical formula (Ca,Na)(Al,Si)₄O₈. Its most captivating feature is that when the crystal is rotated, it reveals dreamlike flashes of blue, green, golden, and even orange-purple brilliance. This special optical phenomenon is called "labradorescence." Appearing as a subdued gray-black crystal at first glance, it blooms with brilliant colors as the light and angles change, which is also why it is known as "spectrolite."

Gradually gaining attention in the European mineralogy community after the 18th century, according to modern legends of the Inuit indigenous people of Canada, the aurora borealis was once trapped within rocks. When the rocks were struck, some of the light returned to the sky, and the light that remained became the shimmering iridescence of labradorite today.
