Introduction

The main component of glacier volcanic glass is silicon dioxide, with the chemical formula SiO₂, and it contains elements such as aluminum, iron, sodium, and potassium. Because it is not a single mineral, it does not have a completely fixed chemical formula. When high-temperature, silica-rich volcanic lava cools rapidly, crystals do not have time to fully crystallize, which can lead to the formation of a fine-grained natural glassy structure.

In Nordic culture, ice and fire represent two intense and opposing natural forces, and Iceland is known as the "Land of Ice and Fire." As a result, volcanic rock carries the cultural imagery of the birth of the land, natural power, and environmental change. To this day, in modern crystal and mineral culture, it is often endowed with symbols of rebirth, transformation, courage, and breakthroughs.
