Introduction
Velvet malachite has the chemical composition Cu₂(CO₃)(OH)₂ and is named for its fine, soft, velvet-like texture, also called "velvet malachite."

In Egypt and Greece, it was considered a sacred gemstone used for amulets, carvings, and as a raw material for eyeshadow. In medieval Europe, it was believed to ward off evil and disaster, making it a protective stone often worn by royalty and clergy.
